I’ve just arrived in Texas for the annual American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) conference, and even before the official sessions begin, the energy here is unmistakable. There’s something powerful about being surrounded by people who share a mission rooted in prevention, whole-person health, and evidence-based lifestyle transformation. This gathering feels less like a traditional conference and more like a community coming together with purpose.
My first morning began the best way I know how—on the run. A refreshing 5.5-mile loop helped me settle into the rhythm of the week ahead, shake off travel fatigue, and reconnect with the “practice what we preach” spirit so central to lifestyle medicine. As the sun came up, I couldn’t help but think about how many small, intentional choices like this ripple into long-term well-being, both for ourselves and for the patients we serve.
Tonight brings another meaningful moment: meeting fellow Blue Zones–certified healthcare providers at the ACLM reception. Being part of the Blue Zones community has already been such an energizing experience, but connecting with others who have walked the same path—learning the principles, integrating them into clinical practice, and watching them transform patient lives—adds a deeper layer of inspiration. These shared values of purpose, movement, real food, and social connection feel especially alive when we gather in person.
Tomorrow, the conference officially kicks off, and the agenda promises a blend of innovation and practicality. From cutting-edge research on lifestyle interventions to real-world clinical applications, ACLM consistently bridges the gap between science and sustainable change. It’s one of the reasons I look forward to this event each year; it reinforces the idea that healthcare can be proactive, empowering, and deeply human.
As I prepare for the days ahead, I’m reminded of why this field continues to grow. People are looking for approaches that honor the whole person, not just their symptoms. They’re seeking communities and providers who believe in the body’s capacity to heal when supported by the right environment and habits. This conference is a reminder that we, as practitioners, are part of that healing landscape.
I can’t wait to dive into the sessions, reconnect with colleagues, and bring home new tools, insights, and enthusiasm. Here’s to a week of learning, connection, and renewed commitment to helping people live healthier, happier, and longer lives.
